Our Story
A member of the national Neurofibromatosis Network, Neurofibromatosis Kansas and Central Plains, Inc. is a nonprofit organization founded in 1989 by Nancy Prieb and her father, Gordon. Nancy had her struggles with NF1 but maintained a positive attitude and a drive to raise awareness. She and Gordon formed the group to provide information and support to others impacted by NF, and stimulate research.

The Priebs lived in Hutchinson, Kansas, and focused their efforts in their hometown by hosting fundraisers and programming through their church. Nancy attended local nurses’ conferences and participated in NF Network meetings. When her health concerns intensified, NF Central Plains’ center moved to Kansas City — our mission remained the same.
Over time, the scope of our services has broadened. NFCP now hosts an annual Walk, sponsors educational and social programs, circulates regular newsletters, shares research updates, participates in national advocacy trips, partners with medical professionals, and supports clinical trials. Our community encompasses Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Colorado and Missouri.

NFCP’s goal is to be the primary source of information and support for those in the Central Plains region and at the same time, raise public awareness about NF.
